Pre-season game settings to limit starting player time

Because injuries in pre-game seasons are REAL, there needs to be a setting in which starters are removed permanently once they've played X amount of minutes or gotten X amount of tiredness. The owner could decide what the value of X should be. There should also be a REST option (like in baseball) so you can simply remove a player's ability to play at all in the pre-season game.

I'm frankly totally confused about the purpose of preseason here anyway.

There was so little time after the draft, but in theory I guess I should have deactivated many top players or lowered them on the depth chart so the other guys would play more. But I didn't think of this until I'd already laboriously set all my depth charts and had no time to change it all again.

Shouldn't everyone be active in the preseason, at least the early games? It's a nice touch of realism, but I'm not sure why we have it here.

Edit: my first preseason game just hit the 3rd quarter, and I see that the starters didn't play. So at least I can see that it is holding them back and letting the other guys play more. But I still think everyone should be activated in the preseason so you can get more guys in. It would be good to let a full third-string take the field.

i actually think the pre-season games are useful and helpful in the football sim. there are so many different strategies and players, it is helpful to have some space to run some experiments

That's a good point. Plus, I assume guys improve in the preseason, too.

I just need to figure out how to have enough depth at some positions so I can field even a full second team. I only have 8 offensive linemen active, for instance.

Unless the sim simply can't handle it, we really need to have everyone active for at least the first two preseason games. Inactive players defeat the purpose.

I think that allowing an expanded roster of "active" players is an exceptionally good idea. I would love to see this implemented.

The way I see it, you would have a regular season depth chart, and a preseason depth chart. For the preseason depth chart, everyone on your entire roster would be available, while for the regular season depth chart, only those on your active roster would be available. This would give you more guys to play with, and make it easier to hold guys out of preseason games when you wanted to rest them without screwing up your regular depth chart.
