Fumble changes

November 19, 2014 at 06:37AM View BBCode

It has been pointed out to me that fumbles occur on long runs far too often. I've pulled the play by play on all NFL regular season fumbles from 2002 through 2013 representing 1,653 fumbles and only 24 of them were on runs over 20 yards.

I've put in new code to more accurately reflect this. Fumbles are still possible on long runs but most of them will be on runs of 4 yards or less and anything over 18 yards should be extremely rare.

Specifically, the distribution should be similar to:

-11 to -9 yds: 2.0%
-8 to -4 yds: 6.3%
-3 to -1 yds: 10.9%
0 yds: 33.6%
1 to 4 yds: 25.2%
5 to 9 yds: 13.3%
10 to 14 yds: 5.2%
15 to 18 yds: 1.1%
19 to 26 yds: 1.1%
27 to 75 yds: 0.5%

Not yet, I need to test it here first to make sure it is working properly.

That's good your looking at this. THe other thing with fumbles that has always bothered me is that the guy that fumbles the ball seems to recover it himself way too much. That rarely happens in real footballl and I would say it happens close to 30 percent on here.

Could we get fumbles/fumbles lost added to the box score? Like interceptions?

Also maybe turnover differential in the standings.

This is a known issue, it actually is going to take more work than it sounds to fix... it will get fixed though.

I haven't improved the boxscore stats in ages, this could probably use some attention soon.

Also, the WRs & TEs need to cough up a few.

Not sure if glitch is back... but fumbles inside own 20 yard line are back again in pay sites. Also missed FG are up again also. Others are commenting on it also. Have about 10 times in last 2 weeks. Might be something to take a look at again.
