American League pennant race

June 15, 2015 at 06:53PM View BBCode

With but 16 games left on the regular season schedule four teams still have a good chance of making it to the playoffs if things break their way.

Cleveland, Boston, Baltimore and Texas have positioned themselves for a likely post season run.

Cleveland at 44-20 owns a six game lead on second place Boston. The River Smoke magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 10, to clinch first place 12.

This team has featured both pitching and a balanced attack more so than any other team this season, thus the best record.
Cleveland's team has done it the old fashioned way ---as a team.

The pitching staff's ace is Phil Pratt (9-3 2.82) and the staff has plenty of depth. Hank Hastings (6-3 3.81), Dan Stone (6-5), and Jimmy Torporcer (5-3 ) are the quality starts and Dick Schrenk has 10 saves and a 4-2 record w/a .3.35 ERA.

Charlie Glavine (.347 7 47) has been a consistent run producer. Jim Snyder (317) and Chris Jordan (306) has consistently set the table for Glavine and the other middle of the order hitters.

Boston's team offense is explosive to put it mildly.

Sluggers Tom Tyson (254 17 HRs. 43 RBI) and Jerry Macpherson (.311 17 68 RBI), lead the league in power production and both can turn a game around with just one swing.

Andy Leach (8-1 2.67), Dick Crown (7-2 4.21) Angel Alberts (4-5 4.20) and Cesar Forster (1-0 2.30 20 saves) comprise the core of a good pitching staff.

The everyday lineup is deep and talented with three regulars with forty or more runs batted in; 3B Steve Donovan (.292 7 HRs, 41 RBI), LF Sammy Moore ( .275 15 HRs 40 RBI), and CF Steve Mogridge have all had very good seasons.

Texas and Baltimore are both on the cusp of getting in and Seattle is hanging on by the finger nails if not already done.
