Kansas City doubled up Detroit in other American League action.
Over in the National League Montreal and Atlanta share first place at this time 32-23).
Montreal had a eight game winning streak snapped by Pittsburg's Joe Scott. Scott won his 8th game against 2 losses. Ed Bichetti picked up his 16th save as the team from the steal city moved to within three games of first place.
Atlanta dropped its second straight game to the Miami Gators 5-4 and it was New York 5 Brooklyn 4.
In the Boston-Minnesota game Boston amassed 17 hits and scored 13 runs off three Minnesota pitchers. Starting pitcher Charlie Cruz (LP 1-6) went five innings and gave up five runs on 10 hits.
Alberto Ramos gave up just a two out single to John Boyd in the second inning and a two-out walk to Rod Colby in the sixth. Ramos recorded seven strikeouts.
Rip Matuszak hit a grand slam homerun in Boston's 9 run sixth inning. Joe Cihocki had a two run double and Bob Bishop, Jose Morales and pitcher Alberto Ramos had run scoring singles in the inning.
Bishop hit his 13th homerun in the 8th inning. It was the fourth staraight game for Bishop to homer. He has driven in 8 runs over that span.

Boston moved into a tie for second place with Oakland three games behind pace setting New York after New York lost to Chicago 5-4 and Oakland went down in defeat to Seattle 3-1.Kansas City doubled up Detroit in other American League action.
