What would you trade for this player?

I offered via U2U a second round pick and a mid level (B) 23-25 yo.

He wants a First and or a top prospect.

I feel since he is 32 a First is a stretch as is the top prospect. I would use him in Middle Relief. He is using him at Closer.

What is the market for this player. I will have no hard feelings either way you all feel.

If it gets you a ring, then the price of a 1st is worth it.

If you can win, and you're the dominant team with the obvious clear path to a ring, by all means, pile on talent. Trading the 16th pick for a ring is a no-brainer.

If you're likely to lose in the first round or not make it, don't pay.

The main thing to remember is that prospects and picks are uncertainties. If you can trade uncertainty for certainty, do it.

It doesn't matter what role the pitcher would be in, or has been in, by the way.

Size your bets by your certainty.

He's an above average RP, based on his career numbers, with essentially 2 seasons to go before decline, he's not worth a 1st and a top prospect but he's worth more than a playoff 2nd and a B 23-25 yr old.

Since your roster is not included, and I'm too lazy to look for it, I have no idea of your need for relievers, in a vacuum I'd likely offer either a 1st or a 2nd and a better prospect

I'd also argue that a B overall 23-25 year old is closer to ww material than mid-level, but that doesn't really change the advice any.

huge difference between B at 23 and at 25.

I consider a 2nd round playoff pick and most people's definition of a mid-level prospect as 2 bench/#5 starter/#4 bullpen guys. There is no incentive to trade a valuable piece if it isn't going to result in at least 1 real contributor to a playoff team. It's a little different in a System 3, but there just aren't enough CPs to go around in the other systems. They get under-developed at best and most end up useless. There are exceptions, of course, but it a pretty low "hit" ratio. The only time I would even consider that type of trade is if there was no market for him and he had a painfully low mentor score.
